All There

Mmmmm. Gloomy.

All There
(c) Mark Frey 2003

we dump our junk in a big unmarked trash can
men in overalls haul it away
we never see it again so we figure
everything's gonna be ok
but all that crap keeps piling up
year after year after year after year
every convenient diaper
every disposable souvenir

it's all there
still there
garbage on the surface
sulfur dioxide in the air
it's all there
still there
and someday somewhere somebody's got to care

still we struggle for SUV supremacy
and packaging runs our lives
just cranking up the engines
to the point where no one survives

it's all there
still there
nitrates in the water
monoxides in the air
it's all there
still there
and someday somewhere somebody's going to care

one day everyone will near the landfill
as the acid rain pours down on us all
when I think about my great-grandkids' asthma
my own problems seem so small

it's all there
still there
heavy metals in the soil
particulates in the air
it's all there
still there
and someday somewhere somebody's got to care
